The beginnings of Thierry Mugler
Thierry Mugler was born in Strasbourg in 1948. Very early on, he developed a real love for art in general, appreciating everything drawing as well as classical dance, theater, making video clips, design, staging or photography. Thus, he went to courses at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg in order to become an interior designer. This is also where his passion for buildings with fascinating perspectives came from. Then, at the age of 21, in 1969, Thierry Mugler moved to Paris where he did not go unnoticed thanks to his unique style. Indeed, Thierry Mugler already made his own clothes. This is how he got hired as a stylist in a Parisian boutique called Gudule. At 26, he became a freelance designer and worked for various major brands in Paris, Milan, London and Barcelona. Her first collection came soon after, in 1973. It was called Café de Paris and was inspired by Hitchcock actresses, understand hyper feminine. This first collection was followed by a more classic line for men which was used, moreover, to dress the waiters of the Palace. It was then that Thierry Mugler opened his first boutique in Paris, in 1978. In the 1980s and 1990s, he positioned himself as an essential element on the international scene and his collections were extremely successful. Thierry Mugler was then described as a “shock creator” by the press as his ideas were so innovative. It was then in parallel with his fashion made of multiple materials that Thierry Mugler decided to develop his first perfume.
The Thierry Mugler revolution in the perfume department
In 1992, firmly decided to launch his first perfume, it was Thierry Mugler himself who came to meet the Clarins group to suggest that they create their first fragrance. Thierry Mugler then had the idea of creating a gourmet essence, a great first in the world of perfumes. The fruit of this idea is now known to all: it is the famous Angel. This paved the way for many other sweet juices. Likewise, it was quickly joined by three other fragrances within the Thierry Mugler brand: the masculine A * Men, incarnation of a hero half man half God, Alien, the second great feminine of the house, and Womanity, celebration of all women around the world.
Whether through fashion or perfume, Thierry Mugler likes to develop architectural and very contrasting constructions. His daring seems limitless and he does not hesitate to revolutionize the sectors of activity to which he touches.
